The AppGate Mobility Server enables users of mobile
devices such as telephones and PDAs to securely access
data resources inside of an enterprise’s trusted, internal
network. Since mobile devices are inherently insecure, it is
necessary to have a good security system in place to be able
to offer non-public services to mobile users. The AppGate
Mobility Server is specially targeted for mobile users and
their security needs.
The AppGate Mobility Server is a pre-configured appliance
server that is easy to install and configure. It can either be
installed as a stand-alone unit or be combined with an existing
VPN system as a complimentary product when the existing solution
does not support mobile phones or PDAs. The mobility
server has many of the features found in the AppGate Security
Server system but is specially targeted for mobile users and
smaller enterprises.
The system is well suited for all kinds of mobile users who need
secure access to internal resources, such as email and intranet
web pages. Examples of such users are:
- Users who need to access internal resources, for example to
read and send email using mobile devices.
- Sales people who need to check information from their CRM
system.
- Field technicians who can report and access information
directly to remote systems.
- Medical doctors who can check medical records and send
reports immediately.
- Almost all situations where mobile users with telephones or
PDAs want access to resources from a remote server.
The AppGate Mobile Client is adapted to run on small mobile
clients with a suitable personal Java environment. With the
AppGate Mobile client downloaded to the mobile device, it is
easy to reach the company intranet and to, for example, read and
send secure e-mail. The users become truly mobile in a fully
secure way.
- Full control of services offered to mobile users with detailed
logging of all user activities.
- The AppGate Mobility Server receives encrypted traffic from
the mobile unit (using SSH) and forwards the traffic to
application servers
- The Mobility Server does not have the problems often
encountered with IPSec and mobility, for example when
using a GPRS networks with address translation (NAT)
- Support for strong encryption (AES with 128 bit keys)
- Roaming functionality offers users automatic and seamless
reconnection if the communication link goes down or the
device is assigned another IP address
- Traffic is compressed to increase network performance and
reduce communication costs, in many cases up to 50%
- Supports many authentication methods such as passwords,
Radius, SecurID and LDAP. User rights can vary depending
on authentication method used.
The AppGate Mobility Server has many of the characteristics
found in the AppGate Security Server System. It can be
extended to become a full AppGate Security Server with
clients for almost all other platform types.
