Security Designed to Meet The Needs Of The Defence Industry
AppGate is a Swedish Company whose roots can be traced back to the defence industry. It all started at the end of the 1990's when a leading Swedish defence company needed a security solution for internal use, to separate internal networks. There was no product on the market that fulfilled their needs so they contracted outside specialists to design a solution. That team of specialists included Tomas Olovsson and Martin Forssen (today AppGate's CTO and Head of Development respectively). They quickly realised that a solution based on an ordinary firewall would not fit the customers need - firewall technology was too blunt an instrument. It would not give the granular control that was needed, nor would it provide the flexibility that was demanded.
Non perimeter-based security– A Ground-Breaking Approach
The solution that they developed proved highly effective and quickly became popular among other companies in the defence sector. These customers realised that, for truly effective network security, they needed a solution that was based on a different approach to the traditional products that were available. This new approach was based on the logic that, instead of relying on protecting the perimeter of the network, information needs to be protected much closer to the source. Also, all transmissions need to be encrypted and the end-point device has to be checked and secured - all this controlled from one central place. At AppGate, we call that the "single point of power".
AppGate Now Has Customers in 23 Countries Around the Globe
Early on, this ground-breaking technology was adopted primarily by the military and defence sector. At the end of 2002 AppGate Network Security was formed with a clear goal to broaden the customer base to other industry sectors. Since then some of the biggest and most important companies in the world have adopted the AppGate solution. Today AppGate has installed some of the largest access solutions in the world. AppGate has operations in Sweden, U.K and the U.S and resellers in most European countries as well as in the U.S. AppGate’s fast growing network of resellers and partners consists of selected security specialists with long experience in different aspects of security.

AppGate continues to challenge the perimeter-based security model and release companies from the restrictions of the traditional security model. With customers having to manage a more mobile workforce, more legislation and increasing costs for security, we at AppGate work to develop solutions that not only solve today's security problems but also are flexible enough to support our customers in a fast changing world where new threats and new opportunities happen every day.
